Am 11. Februar 2017, in wenigen Tagen ist es soweit: der Presidents Cup 2017 über 160 km findet in den UAE statt. Die Distanzreiter aus der ganzen Welt schauen gespannt auf den bevorstehenden Ritt. Die Situation ist derzeit sehr angespannt – bislang starben 9 Distanzpferde in der Saison 2016/2017 in der Vereinten Arabischen Emiraten.
Protestbriefe über die Situation gab es von der American Endurance Ride Conference AERC und der Australian Endurance Riders Association Inc.. Vor wenigen Tagen, am 4. Februar konnte sich der VDD endlich zu einer kurzen Stellungnahme zu generellen Entwicklungen im internationalen Distanzsport durchringen, was sehr zu begrüßen war. In dem Schreiben distanzierte sich der Verein Deutscher Distanzreiter und -fahrer e.V. von allen Vorfällen, bei denen im Zusammenhang mit Distanzritten unser Sportpartner Pferd nicht den Grundsätzen des Tierschutzes entsprechend behandelt wird, alledings ohne kontete Ritte, Personen oder Länder zu benennen.

In 2015 we decided that we would only send riders for endurance competitions in these countries if they had qualified as riders – that we did not allow Danish riders participate in borrowed or rented horses. The international community has also been sanctioned against the conditions, but it is our assessment that conditions continue to endanger horse welfare. We have several talented distance riders in Denmark that fit and ride their horses in accordance with good horse welfare, but we believe that it is horse welfare irresponsible to send Danish riders out and ride under the conditions that we see in the UAE. Therefore, the Danish Equestrian Federation’s board of directors decided to stop for all Danish distance participation in the UAE

No Swedish horse to Dubai
Swedish Equestrian Federation will suspend sending some riders and horses to endurance races in the G7 countries.
The decision was taken on Tuesday after Danish Equestrian Federation announced its decision.

EGB/BEF have also made it clear that they will not be submitting entries to the forthcoming HH President of the UAE Cup and the Crown Prince Cup in the light of these concerns. In addition, EGB will be writing to British riders based in the Middle East to urge them not to take part in events in Dubai and Al Wathba until confidence in the welfare procedures in place has been restored. EGB is currently considering withdrawing ‘No Objection Certificates’ from those who do intend to compete.

Norway 08/02/2017
On the basis of a number of negative events in the UAE over the past four weeks, with several doping cases and deaths among horses, it is now certain that as of today, no Norwegian horses and riders will be entered into any competition in these countries.
Two Norwegian horses and riders are right now in Abu Dhabi for participation in a race on Saturday 11 February. Their participation is made by the earlier decision to participate only in FEI rides on Norwegian-owned horses.

Wer beim Presidents Cup starten wird und wer nicht, sehen wir am Wochenende. Ich persönlich wünsche den Teilnehmern ein gutes Gelingen und hoffe stark, dass diese ihre Pferde nicht überfordern und wir keine weiteren negativen Schlagzeilen bekommen, die unserem Sport so unendlich viel schaden!
Mögen 25.000,00 Euro cash für jeden Teilnehmer, der sein Pferd heil ins Ziel bringt, ein zusätzlicher Anreiz sein. Die Autos für die Plätze 1-10 sind natürlich auch verlockend…
